We are very concerned about the increasing number of families living locally who rely on Food Banks. The collapse of some parts of the economy due to Covid-19 has meant many people working in hospitality, entertainment and retail sectors have lost their jobs. And while the state has provided record levels of support, not everybody can manage the transition from employment to the benefits system. Many continue to struggle to get by and quite a few, unable to navigate the system or not quite meeting the criteria for state aid, slip between the cracks. The local food banks help plug those gaps and we have been collecting food every couple of months to help keep them stocked. In 2020 we estimate over 2 tonnes of food has been donated and helped over 60 local families in need. We continue to accept donations in our churches.
