Community Volunteers
Church members are often at the forefront of community life, organising or participating in events for both church and secular activities, and raising funds for good causes. This is all part of living out faith as the body of Christ.
There are many ways in which you could get involved as a volunteer:
Volunteering at Church
In Church life, you could volunteer in a wide range of roles from the practical to the spiritual. Be that providing a welcome, offering refreshment or helping to clean and maintain the building or churchyard or read the bible lessons or lead intercessions or singing in a choir or playing an instrument.
Leadership. You might be inspired to join your local church leadership team by standing as a Churchwarden or for membership of the Parochial Church Council. Or you might feel called to a vocation linked to church ministry, such as children's work, lay-leading worship or training as a reader or offering yourself for ordination.
Pastoral visiting of those who are isolated at home or in care homes nearby is something we'd like to offer more of, if we can attract the volunteers we need. If this is somethin tha interests you, then please contact the Rector. DBS checks and safeguarding training will be required.
Eco Church - if anyone is interested in the environment, ecology and sustainability, there are opportunities to lead a range of initiatives under the A Rocha UK scheme. For more information, contact the Rector.
Church News - As well as contributing stries and pictures, we'd love to hear from anyone interested in helping write and/or designing the regular church newsletter.
School Governors
From time to time we have vacancies for school governors at Hormead First School and Nursery. Members of the church are particularly sought as potential Foundation Governors who have particular responsibility for maintaining the Christian distinctiveness of the school. Local Charities
Becoming a Trustee of a local chrity is a very important voluntary role. As well as helping to make decisions, offer ideeas and maintain good governance, Charities are often in need of specialist skills as secretaries and treasurers. In tghis benefice we have established a Chartable board that oversees a number of small charitable funds that re used to support children and the elderly and those on low incomes with practical help or education opportunities. To find out more, please contact the Rector.
Local Government and Village Halls
Village meetings and Parish Councils are the first tier of local government and important features of local democracy and you may wish to consider standing for election to these bodies. Similarly, our village halls are maintained and run by volunteers and their committees need your help too.
Good Neighbours Scheme
With limited access to public Transport, the good neighbours scheme was established to support any village residents in the benefice to reach hospital and doctors appointments. Private drivers with additional insurance and basic training provide lifts to and from medical appointments, for which expenses are paid. If you could be a volunteer driver or need transport help, please contact Patricia Hamilton.
