VE and VJ DAY
The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has produced a template pack so that the public can hold a 1940s style afternoon tea party at home complete with homemade VE Day bunting, original recipes, games, and educational and creative activities for children.
With members of the public unable to attend VE Day 75 events, The Royal British Legion is playing a central role in the delivery of a range of remote activity, including:
- National moments of Remembrance and thanksgiving, including a Two Minute Silence at 11am
- A live VE Day 75 livestream at 11.15am
- An evening of memories and music in partnership with the BBC from 8pm on BBC One
- A UK-wide singalong to Vera Lynn’s ‘We’ll Meet Again at 9pm
The Royal British Legion will commemorate VJ Day on Saturday 15 August. They are developing plans in line with the latest Government guidance and will announce a programme in due course.
Easter 2018
It was a wonderful celebration of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you to all who contributed with singing, music, bells, cleaning, flowers etc. Over 350 people joined in worship to praise God for his all powerful love.
1st April 2018
6am - Greet the Easter Dawn at Little Hormead
Hear the story of the first Easter, sing of the resurrection and watch the sun rise as we greet the Risen Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Followed by breakfast at The White Cottage, Great Hormead
8am - Book of Common Prayer Holy Communion at Meesden
A beautiful and simple said service of Holy Communion on this holiest of days. We use this form of worship to remind ourselves of all who have gone before and celebrated New Life with these words of hope and glory.
9.30am - Family Holy Communion at Brent Pelham
An informal service of Holy Communion as All Ages gather to celebrate Jesus' rising from the dead. Rousing hymns and an interactive talk and prayers. Followed by the traditional Egg Hunt.
11am Holy Communion with Choir and Sunday School at Great Hormead
A traditional Service of Holy Communion with the fabulous choir to lift our hearts and minds to the Risen Lord. A Sunday School is for all ages of children in the Church Room.
4pm Family Holy Communion at Wyddial
A service for all ages as together we celebrate Easter, with rousing hymns and an interactive sermon.
6pm Holy Communion at Anstey
A beautiful service of Holy Communion to end the day followed by Champagne and Chocolate!
This day is the last day that Kate will serve in the Benefice. A goodbye drinks party will be on Easter Monday from 12 noon at Hormead Village Hall.
